The Arcadia was a luxury passenger zeppelin featured in Crimson Skies. The Arcadia was bound to Germany from Manhattan, and one of its passengers was a certain Waldo Carney, an accountant for Lucas Miles and Sacred Trust Incorporated who became scared and decided to attempt to flee[1] after Nathan Zachary destroyed a Sacred Trust warehouse.[2]
Booking a cabin, he decided to use the Arcadia as a getaway method to distance himself from Miles and avoid any repercussions for their criminal activities. Due to his status as an accountant, he had information on the books and fundings of Sacred Trust, making him a lucrative informant that Paladin Blake and the Fortune Hunters were eager to capture to gain evidence against Miles and Sacred Trust. Unfortunately for Carney, the Black Hats and Sacred Trust somehow discovered his whereabouts and decided to kill him by destroying the zeppelin, therefore dooming him to die in the crash. Blake planned to have Zachary rescue Carney and bring him to the police building downtown, where he could be taken into custody and questioned.[1]
Rushing to the aid of the zeppelin, the Fortune Hunters began to protect it against the Black Hat and Sacred Trust fighters. However, it would not be as easy as downing the fighters and docking with the zeppelin to recover Carney, as the captain of the Arcadia reported that the Black Hats had snuck some saboteurs aboard who were sabotaging the hydrogen sails and therefore blowing the gas bags of the Arcadia.[3] Faced with a time constraint and unwilling to dock with the zeppelin now it was compromised, Zachary instead had Carney go to the top of the zeppelin and grab onto a ladder which he would dangle out of his plane,[3] as he had previously done for the likes of Ilsa Fassenbiender,[4] Sparks[5] and Lana Cooper.[6]
With the fighters in retreat and Carney on the roof, Zachary managed to fly over the zeppelin at a low speed so that Carney could grab the ladder and climb up before too many of the gas bags had been destroyed. With Carney safe, the remaining hostile fighters were shot down before the Arcadia lost too many gas bags and crashed into the river.[3] Twenty-three passengers were killed, however many others were saved as the actions of Zachary and the Fortune Hunters distracted the Black Hats enough to allow lifeboats to be launched.[7]
Strategy[]
- Because you are defending the zeppelin, not attacking it, Aerial torpedoes are a no-go. Keeping the zeppelin alive for as long as possible is the goal.
- Any sort of rockets are of no use here except for Flak rockets to help shoot down the Black Hats attacking the zeppelin.
- Keeping the turrets of the Arcadia alive will help with distracting the Black Hats and potentially damage or destroy a few.
- Avoid damaging the engines of the zeppelin, as getting it further away from the buildings will help with picking up Carney.
