- For the PC game Balmoral, see Bristol Type 140 Balmoral.
The Bristol Type 140 Balmoral was an aircraft found in the Crimson Skies board game. It is the first monoplane bomber produced by Bristol after the Great War.[1] For its time, the Balmoral was the outstanding light bomber in the world, and rejuvenated worldwide interest in the bomber after the war. Nothing rivalled its size or armament to contest its role as a bomber. By the middle 1930s however, the Balmoral was old and considered a heavy fighter, but still found employment in various nations around the world.[2] The Balmoral would serve as the base for the larger Bristol Somerset, though with an elongated fuselage, quad pusher engines, and a new wing design.[3]
Operational history[]
The Balmoral served with the British Empire and its dominions, and in the later years of the 1930s, it was the mainstay bomber support for dominions around the globe.[1]
After the break down of North America, and the good relations between the British Empire and Confederation of Dixie, Dixie purchased a large number of Balmorals for their bomber stockpile and used them as their primary bomber. When they were approached by Bristol to purchase their newer, larger, Bristol Somerset, they declined as they already had their stockpile of Balmorals which they considered adequate for their needs.[3]
