The Dante was a zeppelin featured in Crimson Skies. It was a zeppelin owned and operated by Sacred Trust Incorporated which was sent out to battle the Fortune Hunters zeppelin Pandora over Manhattan. Lucas Miles was on board the zeppelin when it attacked the Pandora[1] in response to the Fortune Hunters stopping several Sacred Trust Cargo zeppelins from escaping with stolen goods.[2] Miles sent the Dante to fight the Pandora after Black Hat Curtiss-Wright P2 Warhawks attempted to destroy it with Aerial torpedoes.[1]

After the Warhawks failed, the Dante attempted to manoeuvre into a position to exchange broadside fire with the Pandora. The Fortune Hunters used a combination of aerial torpedoes and targeting the open cannon hatches to detonate the cannon magazines, blowing the gas bags. While Miles managed to escape the doomed zeppelin, the Dante fell onto Manhattan.[1]

Strategy[]

  • Aerial torpedoes will be a sure fire way to down the Dante, assuming they are not shot down. At least three will be required to down it down, if they all survive being in the air and hit different gas bags.
  • If you decide against torpedoes, the Dante will periodically open its broadside cannon hatches to shoot at the Pandora. Some well placed Machine gun fire will destroy the gun and blow a gas bag.
  • Alternatively, a direct hit with High Explosive rockets will serve the same purpose.
  • Slowing down the zeppelin by taking out its engines will make destroying it easier. Again, high explosive ammo will work well for this.
  • Using an aircraft with a rear turret, such as a Fairchild F611 Brigand or Hughes-Lockheed Firebrand, will make taking out the engines a lot easier as the rear gunner will shoot at and destroy the engines if they manage to get a clear line of sight.
  • The defensive Turrets on the Dante are deadly at close range, and will quickly destroy your aircraft if you are not careful. Taking them out will make attacking the zeppelin a lot safer.
  • Flak rockets are well suited both to destroying engines as well as turrets.
  • The Focke-Wulf Fw 193 Hellhounds it deploys will deal a lot of damage to you, so downing them using your guns and the flak rockets will make it safer to continue attacking the Dante.
