Crimson Skies Wiki

The Huntress is a Zeppelin featured in Crimson Skies. It is a large military zeppelin that acts at the home base for the Black Swans pirate gang, led by ace pilot Black Swan. The zeppelin is often not found far from the gang and the Fortune Hunters encounter it while rescuing Dr. Wilhelm Fassenbiender from the USSR onboard the passenger zeppelin CCCP Worker's Voyage.[1] After the Fortune Hunters have rescued the doctor, the Huntress appears along with Black Swan and her pilots, who are looking to loot the zeppelin. They are unaware that the Fortune Hunters are present, resulting in the fight between the two gangs. After Black Swan was downed the Huntress, unwilling to risk zeppelin combat between it and the Fortune Hunter's own zeppelin the Pandora, made a retreat.[2]

The two gangs and their zeppelins encounter each other again in Sky Haven, where the two sets of crews are kidnapped by Ulysses Boothe and the Black Hats.[3] The Huntress remains hidden while Nathan Zachary and Black Swan operate out of the Pandora to search for the crews. After the Fortune Hunters take down the Black Hats and Sacred Trust Incorporated in Manhattan, Black Swan and the Fortune Hunters join forces, leading to both the Huntress and Pandora flying away from Manhattan in search of new fortunes.[4]

Strategy[]

  • It is entirely possible to not engage the Huntress as defeating or disabling the zeppelin is not a requirement to complete The Red Menace, however destroying the defensive turrets will make dogfighting the Black Swan fighters a little safer.
  • Having an aircraft with a turret, such as the Fairchild F611 Brigand or McDonnell S2B Kestrel, will make disabling the zeppelin engines and turrets easier, as the gunner will be able to target them.
  • High Explosive rockets or Flak rockets will make short work of the engines with a direct hit, and flak splash damage will be able to damage several at once.
  • It is impossible to down the zeppelin when playing the mission for the first time, as it will never open its broadside cannon hatches to shoot.

Notes[]

  • It is possible to destroy the zeppelin if replaying The Red Menace with Aerial torpedoes equipped on an aircraft. The zeppelin will require three successful torpedo hits in total to take down, though doing so will not change the mission results or give any new logbook entries as it occurs before torpedoes are collected.
