The Spruce Goose was an aircraft featured in Crimson Skies. It large seaplane being stored in the Nation of Hollywood at the film studio. Commissioned by Johnny Johnson from Hughes Aviation,[2] the, the Spruce Goose was to be unveiled at the studio to a waiting crowd.[3] Following in infiltration of the film studio by Nathan Zachary and his air pirate gang the Fortune Hunters, as well as the kidnapping of film actress Lana Cooper,[4] Zachary received word of the Spruce Goose being stored in a large hangar on the set for its unveiling.[3] Using Betty Charles as an actress, who had infiltrated the film set thanks to the influence of Lana Cooper who had actually asked the Fortune Hunters to save her from the studio,[4] she was able to help plan a heist of the aircraft. Despite numerous attempts by Studio Security and the Hollywood Knights to stop the Spruce Goose from getting airborne by shooting out its engines, Zachary and his gang were able to steal the Spruce Goose.[5]
After they escaped with the aircraft, it was sold to a mysterious buyer in Manhattan via a third party,[6] though Zachary and the gang paid little attention to where the Spruce Goose went after they stole it. However, it made a reappearance when the Fortune Hunters crippled Sacred Trust Incorporated cargo zeppelins and prevented them from escaping Manhattan.[6] In a last attempt to get at least something out of Manhattan, Sacred Trust attempted to fly the Spruce Goose out of the hangar it was kept in, however it was quickly destroyed by Zachary.[6]
Following the cessation of combat between the Fortune Hunters and Sacred Trust, divers repeatedly dove into the waters where the Spruce Goose sunk in attempts to extract all of the gold from the wreckage.[7] In addition, Hughes was thinking of attempting to sue Zachary for the initial theft of the aircraft.[2]
Trivia[]
- During the mission The Great Plane Robbery, the Spruce Goose can lose up to three engines before being deemed too heavy to take off/keep flying. It does not matter where on the aircraft the engines are lost from, meaning it could lose three on one side but still be deemed airworthy, which would really cause it to be highly imbalanced with power.
Trivia[]
- The Spruce Goose is the only real life aircraft featured in Crimson Skies, officially known as the Hughes H-4 Hercules but often nicknamed the Spruce Goose. The real aircraft was not destroyed and now resides in the Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum in McMinnville, Oregon.
