Tornado was a company featured in Crimson Skies. They specialized in aircraft engines, specifically for fighter aircraft. Most notably, they built and produced the "G" series of engines used in the Hughes P21-J Devastator.

Products[]

R300[]

"The thundering power of the Tornado G300 has thrilled pilots around the world! You'll MARVEL at its speed! You'll WONDER at its thrust! You'll THRILL the world at the performance we pack into the TORNADO!"
—Engine description[1]

The R300 was the base engine in the "R" series, with a cost of $1,2570 and 1,500 lbs in weight. While not the most powerful of engines, it could propel the Devastator at 225 m.p.h.[2]

R450[]

"The thundering power of the Tornado G450 has thrilled pilots around the world! You'll MARVEL at its speed! You'll WONDER at its thrust! You'll THRILL the world at the performance we pack into the TORNADO!"
—Engine description[3]

The R450 was the standard model of engine provided when purchasing a Devastator. The engine cost $1,700 and weighed 2,000 lbs. For this, it could get the Devastator travelling at 251 m.p.h.[2]

R600[]

"The thundering power of the Tornado G600 has thrilled pilots around the world! You'll MARVEL at its speed! You'll WONDER at its thrust! You'll THRILL the world at the performance we pack into the TORNADO!"
—Engine description[4]

The heaviest engine in the line, the G600 would break the bank at $2,125 and also weigh you down quite a bit at 2,500 lbs. However, for this, it could get a Devastator whizzing through the skies at 276 m.p.h.

Nitrous[]

"Now with nitro-boost! Look at the math of the Tornado! Add the amazing quality of our regular G300/450/600 to the extra power of nitro injection, and you wind up with amazing power at an affordable price. Fly our demo model today!"
—Nitrous added to all engines[5]

Following the heist of the Hughes Bloodhawk[6] and rescue of Wilhelm Fassenbiender[7] by Nathan Zachary, the "R" series of engines were able to be fitted with nitrous oxide boost which increased their top speeds and allowed for a short supercharged burst of speed. The addition of nitrous caused the engines to become even heavier and cost more than their base variants, adding an additional 500 lbs to each engine's weight, causing the heavy G600 to weigh a hefty 3,000 lbs with the nitrous. Price increase from the nitrous caused the G300 nitro to cost $1,705, the G450 nitro to cost $2,130 and the already expensive G600 to now cost $2,555 with the nitro.[2]

However, the considerable power increase meant that the G300 nitro could attain a top speed of 300 m.p.h, faster than the base G300 by a massive 75 m.p.h.! The G450 nitro could reach speeds of 333 m.p.h. and the G600 nitro was able to clock 367 m.p.h, almost 100 m.p.h faster than the standard G600.[2]

Trivia[]

  • The description of the G600 nitro is the only one to include Tornado in capitals in the line "Look at the math of the Tornado!"[2]
    • There is also another error in the description, though this is right at the start. In the opening sentence of the nitrous engines, they are denoted with an "n" prefix after the numbers (G300n and G450n). However, for the G600 nitro, the "n" is missing.[2]
