The CCCP Vostok was a Zeppelin featured in Crimson Skies. It is a USSR military zeppelin located near to Russian tanker Oktober as it made its way towards Boeing Field. The tanker was ran aground and ambushed by the Fortune Hunters, who proceeded to move their own zeppelin Pandora into position above the tanker in order to steal its supply of fuel. The Oktober requested aid from the Vostok who launched its compliment of Hughes P21-J Devastators to try and chase away the pirates. The Fortune Hunters proved to be superior pilots over the Russians, however, and shot down the fighters before turning their attention to the Vostok itself, targeting its engines to allow their own zeppelin to escape. For good measure, they also set alight to the Oktober, resulting in the Vostok remaining with it and rescuing the crew.[2]
Strategy[]
- As you are aiming to disable the Vostok, Flak rockets are ideal for quickly destroying its engines thanks to the splash radius. High Explosive rockets work but require more precision due to their low splash radius.
- High explosive Ammunition is the best for destroying engines quickly using your aircraft's Machine guns.
- Flying an aircraft with a rear gunner, such as a Fairchild F611 Brigand or McDonnell S2B Kestrel will make disabling the zeppelin even quicker, as your gunner will shoot at and destroy engines when they get a clear line of sight.
- Destroying the zeppelin's fighters and taking out its Turrets will make going for the engines a lot safer.
- When playing the mission for the first time, it will be impossible to down the zeppelin, as even though it has broadside cannons they are not programmed to open as the zeppelin is not meant to shoot at the Pandora. As such, you can only disable the zeppelin by going for the engines so it can't give chase.

- If you replay the mission with Aerial torpedoes, you can destroy the Vostok before it can launch any fighters, which removes any hostiles after you destroy the patrol boats. However, because the mission is performed before aerial torpedoes are acquired in the story, even after being destroyed the captain of the Vostok will continue to play his voice lines for launching fighters and Sparks will play his voice lines as if Russian fighters are in the air.
