—Aircraft description[1]

The William & Colt Peacemaker 370 is an aircraft featured in Crimson Skies. It is fast, agile, single engine fighter originating from the Republic of Texas. Due to the threat of a new war with Estados Unidos Mexicanos, or the United Mexican States, the republic developed and built the Peacemaker as a cutting edge fighter for a new Texan-Mexican War. However, with the war not manifesting and the design starting to age, it was released to the global market to anyone interested.[1]

Purchasers included private individuals and investors, but also nations such as France and the British Empire who operated it in colonial holdings. Additionally, they field submarines specially built with internal hangars that can carry a limited amount of Peacemakers.[2] Within North America, Blake Aviation Security greatly enjoyed what the Peacemaker had to offer and used it as the mainstay fighter craft for their security militias.[1] Whilst aging in design, the Peacemaker is still fast and agile enough to compete with newer designs and remains a constant companion of those who maintain them.

Operational history[]

The major users of the Peacemaker is the British Empire, who field a force of Peacemakers during their attempted conquest of the Kingdom of Hawaii. After the Fortune Hunters show an interest in the island while tracking Drake's Gold, the British send three Bristol Type 140 Balmoral light bombers escorted by Peacemakers to bomb the treasure site, hoping that without the treasure the pirates will leave in search of new opportunities.[3] However, they are foiled and retaliate after the pirates capture a pop-up base on one of the islands.[4] A force of Peacemakers are sent to reclaim the base, along with the submarine HMS Barracuda which contains an internal hangar of Peacemakers. They too fail,[2] however, leaving the British unable to root out the pirates.

Another major user of the Peacemaker is Blake Aviation Security (BAS), who encounter the Fortune Hunters as they plan to raid Boeing Field and capture a prototype Hughes Bloodhawk.[5] Their Peacemakers attempt to stop the heist, but are downed by the Fortune Hunters, allowing the pirates to steal the aircraft.[5] After this failure, Paladin Blake brings in the Zeppelin Promised Land to defend Boeing Field, which can carry three full squadrons of Blake Peacemakers.[6] However, the pirates perform a surprise raid, destroying many Peacemakers on the ground as well as trapping the Promised Land on its docking clamp, preventing it from the launching its fighters which are destroyed along with the zeppelin in the raid.[7]

The repeated failures of BAS to keep their contracts safe result in their loss of public favor. Despite this, BAS continues to get some contracts and operate Peacemakers, albeit alongside the newer Bloodhawks. One such contact was to defend the Cargo zeppelin Figaroa as it transported a wreck to Free Colorado.[8] The Fortune Hunters once against strike, however, and destroy the escorting BAS Peacemakers and hijack the Figaroa.[8] This does nothing to help the publicity of BAS, who continue to decline in promiscuity. They are still operating Peacemakers when a convoy of cargo zeppelins, the Twain and Mercury, are ambushed by the Black Hats gang, only to be saved by their old adversaries the Fortune Hunters.[9] After the rival security firm Sacred Trust Incorporated are exposed as being fraudulent, BAS regains their public standing and continue to field Peacemakers.
